Tobia e l'angelo Raffaele

Acquaforte, 1635, firmata in lastra Rembrandt f. 1635. La stampa, ritenuta dagli studiosi anonima, è incisa nella maniera del Maestro Rembrandt. Bellissima prova, impressa su carta vergata coeva, rifilata al rame, in buono stato di conservazione. La storia è tratta dal Libro di Tobia, contenuto nella Bibbia Cristiana dell’Antico ed è legata alla figura dell’Arcangelo Raffaele, protettore dell’amore coniugale. Si presenta come una sorta di racconto popolare «a lieto fine» che esalta la buona condotta dei personaggi principali, nel rispetto del prossimo e della legge. Anche la scelta dei nomi non è casuale nella narrazione; la radice ebraica del nome Tobia, significa appunto bontà e proprio questa virtù è messa in luce nel corso della storia. Il racconto è ambientato nel VII secolo a.C. con testo prevenuto in greco, e narra le vicende di Tobia che incontra Raffaele – mandato da Dio - durante il suo viaggio per raggiungere Sara. The story is taken from the Book of Tobias, contained in the Old Christian Bible, and is related to the figure of the Archangel Raphael, protector of conjugal love. It is presented as a kind of folk tale "with a happy ending" that extols the good behavior of the main characters, respecting their neighbors and the law. Even the choice of names is not accidental in the narrative; the Hebrew root of the name Tobiah, means precisely goodness, and it is precisely this virtue that is highlighted throughout the story. The narrative is set in the 7th century B.C. with text prefaced in Greek, and tells the story of Tobiah who meets Raphael - sent by God - during his journey to reach Sarah.
