Il testo è preceduto da "An Account of the Life and Writings of Mr. James Thomson", da una "Ode on the Death of Mr. Thompson by Mr. Collins" e da una lirica "To Amanda". Seguono i quattro poemi "The Seasons", che occupano l'intero primo volume. Il secondo volume contiene "A Poem sacred to the memory of Sir Isaac Newton, inscribed to the right honourable Sir Robert Walpole", "Britannia", "Liberty (Italy, Greece, Rome, Britain, The Prospect)", "To the memory of the right honourable the Lord Talbot", "The Castle of Indolence", "Poems on several Occasions".
