First Extra Illustrated and Best Edition, this copy with superb provenance, coming from the collection of W.A. Foyle of Beeleigh Abbey with his red morocco book label gilt. Illustrated Edition, with portrait of Loredano and forty eight illustrations engraved on wood from drawings by R. R. Holmes and thirty plates of palaces, churches and other buildings in Venice, textual drawings throughout. Large 8vo, in a very handsome contemporary binding by Zaehnsdorf of three-quarter crushed morocco over pebbled cloth covered boards, the joins ruled in gilt, the spine with raised bands richly filleted in gilt, two compartments lettered in gilt, others with gilt ornamental devices at the centers, marbled endleaves, top edge gilt, others uncut. xv, [1], 410 pp. A very handsome and beautifully preserved copy, the morocco clean and near as pristine, the text block clean and sound and very bright, hinges strong.
