With a great number of coloured and black and white illustrations from original designs, frontispiece with portraits of: Other Day, Little Crow, Standing Buffalo, Cut Nose, Red Iron, and Hole in the Day. And with an illustrated title page featuring Cortez and Montezuma hand-coloured. Thick 8vo, publisher’s original brown cloth, textured in a diagonal chain motif, the upper cover with a central gilt decorative design of a Native American surrounded by a floral circle, also with ornate blind decorations around the borders, the centra design is repeated on the rear cover in blind along with all of the other same border decorations, the spine lettered and decorated in gilt with a Native American man holding a rifle and ornate scrolls and devices. 760 pp. A solid, tight very good copy with some mellowing to the spine panel and a bit of light age wear, some internal spotting here and there as is typical with the paper stock used by the publisher. Overall a handsome copy of this rare book.
