First and LIMITED EDITION and the first appearance in book form, one of only 250 copies on Glastonbury Book Antique paper from a total printing of only 300 copies. With a tipped-in frontispiece portrait of Jorge Luis Borges from a drawing by Hugo Manning. 4to, publisher's original buff buckram lettered on the spine in gilt, in the original dark tan paper dustjacket lettered on the both front and rear panels and the spine in blue. [i], 17, [1] pp. A very fine copy, the book as mint, the jacket with no wear but a touch of sun to the fore and top edges, a few marks on the rear cover in precisely the same colour blue as the printing so likely a printing flaw.
Edizione: first appearence in book form and limited to 250 copies only. the translation originally appeared in 'the new yorker'. the congress was borges' favourite of his stories, or one of his favourites: "if of all my stories i had to save one, i would probably save the "the congress", which at the same time is the most autobiographical (the one richest in memories) and the most imaginative."<br> the story is about a utopic universal congress, and while written in the form of a short story it is sometimes viewed as a political essay.
