Descrizione

The Illustrated Junior Library edition. Wonderfully illustrated by Donald McKay with ten plates in full colour and numerous black and white drawings throughout. Tall 8vo, in the publisher's original decorated cloth featuring an all-over full colour illustration wrapping around both covers and the spine, the spine features a green label simulating morocco, gilt lettered and decorated in a riverboat motif, in the original clear acetate dustjacket lettered on the upper panel in white and black. [vi], 318, [1] pp. A fine copy but for a little general mellowing in a toned but complete acetate jacket with a few tiny closed tears and some rubbing to the lettering. The book itself shows virtually no wear, which is uncommon for such a popular children's edition.

Edizione: a bright and fun illustrated edition of this american classic. this beloved grosset and dunlap series of books provided an unbeatable combination of fine colourplate illustration, near-private-press-quality printing and especially bright and appealing decorated cloth at an affordable price.<br> little needs to be said about tom sawyer, it is now thought to be (along with huckleberry finn) one of the great stepping stones to the modern american novel. it, like whitman’s leaves of grass and melville’s moby dick, typifies and describes the american spirit. to this day, it remains a cornerstone of american literature.
