Contemporary Turkish wallet-style leather binding, gilt tughra (Ottoman sultan's calligraphic monogram) within a double gilt frame on the panels, gilt ornaments and frame on the overlapping extension, marbled endleaves (slightly worn and rubbed, spine repaired in the middle). Few leaves slightly loosened, some occasional marginal staining, a few leaves slightly browned, marginal tear to a leaf, overall a very good, genuine copy in a presentation binding.
First edition. Vekâyi-i Letâ'if-i Enderûniyye, commonly referred to as Târîh-i Enderûn, is the only known work of Hafız Hızır İlyas. It is a primary source on Ottoman palace life, detailing events, honours and ceremonies from the time at the Enderun, the imperial Ottoman palace school and court, with a particular focus on the reign of Mahmud II. The text vividly describes court ceremonies and social gatherings, as well as the complex relationships among palace officials. It also contains personal reflections on family dynamics, rivalries, and the ambitions of individuals within the Ottoman court. As a rare literary and historical bridge to the late period of Ottoman divan literature, the work offers insights into the lives and works of notable poets and scholars of the time.
