Descrizione

First Edition, early printing. With 100 beautiful plates in colour from the author's paintings. Tall 8vo, original blue cloth, the upper cover and spine with gilt lettering and a stylized gilt Chrysanthemum, this within a gray art nouveau framework, t.e.g. xiv, 207, 4 ads, pp. An attractive copy, the text a tad shaken but clean and fresh with none of the common foxing, endpapers completely intact, the blue cloth a bit aged with a small spit at the lower edge of the spine and a little general wear and mellowing.

Edizione: a scarce a. & c. black travel book on japan. menpes has combined the soft, delicacy of japanese art with a western sense of form and color. the result are these one hundred beautiful, colour plates of old world japan. the accompanying text is an artist’s reflections of the country with a special emphasis on its life and art. this sets it apart from the publisher's other books on japan, which focused primarily on landscapes, views, and gardens. in these paintings menpes richly conveys much more about the peoples of japan; their lives and culture.
