3 vols., 8vo., Third Edition, text in double column, with engraved frontispieces and title-vignettes, engraved plates in colour and monochrome, and very numerous illustrations in the text, some light and inoffensive spotting; strongly bound in contemporary half calf, brown cloth boards, backs with five raised bands tooled in blind, second and third compartments with red leather labels lettered and ruled in gilt, all other compartments tooled in blind with a floral spray, marbled edges, marbled endpapers, joints very ligly rubbed else a most attractive set in wholly unrestored contemporary binding. First published in 1845, Kitto's classic compilation was reissued in a second edition of 1852. This best edition was completed in greatly expanded form by William Lindsay Alexander following the Author's death from sickness in 1854. COMPLETE SETS ARE EXTREMELY SCARCE.
