8vo., Second Edition, with an engraved frontispiece, 64 wood-engraved plates (each containing several figures) and numerous wood-engravings in the text, endpapers and preliminaries lightly spotted; contemporary green half morocco, marbled boards, gilt back, marbled edges, skilfully rebacked, original backstrip gilt with five raised bands laid down, one or two scuffs on boards else a very good, bright, clean copy. Parker's most popular, if not his most profound, work. It includes fresh ideas on Saxon architecture, an article on stained glass by Willement, and (like most of Parker's writings) is charmingly - and accurately - illustrated by Jewitt.
