First edition, Elephant folio (574 x 420 mm), [4], [4], 28pp., 9 engraved plates (consisting of two plans, two elevations and interior and exterior views of the House, all with foxing to various degree, contemporary half red morocco by Francis Bedford (signed on front endpaper), spine with seven compartments each separated by double bands, two lettered, others tooled in gilt extra, marbled cloth boards, minor white paint speckles on upper cover, slightly rubbed but still a handsome volume. The third separately published monographs in the series initiated by the architect Peter Frederick Robinson (1776-1858) as a sequel to Colen Campbellís original work of 1715 under the title Vitruvius Britannicus. The four other titles in this series cover Woburn Abbey, Hardwicke Hall, Castle Ashby & Warwick Castle. Robinson had intended to cover 40 houses and issue one every 6 monthsóhe did not appear to attract the support required to accomplish this. Holmes, p.126; Cooper II, P.129.
