I protagonisti di queste pagine sono eroi ambigui entrati nel mito, simboli di bellezza, ma anche di fragilità e sconfitta. Custer è legato ad una disfatta, una epocale vittoria dei nativi americani sulle truppe che cercavano di conquistare il West. Maria Antonietta è l’ultima, bellissima e giovanissima, regina di Francia. Non c’è Storia in questa rappresentazione: scompaiono i contesti, spesso anche gli interni: rimane il ‘costume’ per usare un’espressione cara al cinema che l’autore sente vicino. E così Maria Antonietta non è più Maria Antonietta, ma una solitaria, splendida donna; e Custer non è più Custer, ma un giovane in divisa. Entrambi non sono loro, ma la loro essenza, quello che di loro ci interessa: bellezza e solitudine. The protagonists of this text are ambiguous heroes who have become idols, symbols of beauty, but also of fragility and defeat. Custer is linked to a defeat, an historic, momentous victory for the Native Americans over troops trying to conquer the West. The extremely beautiful, and very young, Marie Antoinette was the last queen of France. There is no History in this representation: contexts vanish, often even the set: 'conventions' remain, to use an expression loved by the filming industry that the author feels close to. And so, Marie Antoinette is no longer Marie Antoinette, but a solitary, splendid woman; and Custer is no longer Custer, but a young man in uniform.
