Jean-Baptiste Bouillaud was a French physician who was born in Bragette, now part of Garat, Charente. He received his medical doctorate in 1823 and later was a professor at the CharitÈ in Paris. ìhe was a shrewd observer and responsible for a number of important discoveries, among them the localization of the speech center in the left cerebral hemisphere, an observation first reported in this early treatise on brain diseases.îóHeirs of Hippocrates.
