8vo [20 x 14 cm]; [iv], iii, [iii]-v, 346 pp, 72 illustrations from drwgs, decorative chapter headpieces, tailpieces. original pictorial gilt cloth with decorations in black, gilt spine lettering, small tear, lightly rubbed at edge, else a near fine clean copy. A picture of this book is available upon request by email. By the author of 'The Lathe and its Uses' and 'The Amateur Mechanic's Workshop', the book provides details on mortise and tenon jointing, dovetailing, mitering, rebating, tonguing, grooving, sharpening and setting tools, hand-turning in wood, using the lathe, how to make a table, a steam engine, Watt's engine, hardening and tempering tools, etc. Many of the illustrations are of tools. This title could not be traced in the catalogues of the British Library or the Library of Congress.
