First edition, 2 vols., 8vo (214 x 131), [2], vi, 496; iv, 503, [1]pp., engraved portrait frontispiece (some foxing and offsetting), 1 plate, later half calf, marbled boards, spines tooled in blind, contrasting leather labels lettered in gilt, a nice set. William Withering (1741-1799) was chief physician at Birmingham General Hospital, and discoverer of the medicinal properties of digitalis.
