An account of John Metcalf (1717-1810), a remarkable figure who, despite being blind since childhood, led an extraordinary life. This first edition details his adventures in hunting, card-playing, and even his involvement in the Jacobite Rebellion of 1745. Metcalf later became a pioneering road builder, constructing around 180 miles of turnpike roads in northern England during the Industrial Revolution.
