Complete as issued with the 18 engravings. Edizione: one of the earliest and still greatest english expositions on the classical philosophers. stanley was the foremost classical scholar of his day and this work represents an unparalleled contribution to the modern understanding of the greek philosophies. the work is divided into 14 major sections discussing all of the surviving branches of greek philosophy and well over 50 of the philosophers themselves. further it contains extensive and useful tables and chronologies and is decorated with 26 very impressive portraits of the major most philosophers including; thales, socrates, xenophon, plato, aristoteles, diogenes, pythagorus, timon, etc., etc., etc.<br> the fourteenth and final section, on the chaldaick philosophy, has its own titlepage which like the rest of the work is dated 1687.
