8vo., First Edition, with frontispiece, title-vignette and numerous illustrations (a number full-page) in the text, some mild offsetting from fold-ins to free endpapers; blue cloth, backstrip lettered in silver, a very good, bright, clean copy in price-clipped dustwrapper. The author's second book, the first published by the fledgling Hart-Davis and the first to be illustrated by Ralph Thompson. It was Hart-Davis who brought author and artist together in a partnership that was last for more than a decade and which included Durrell's finest work. Here we meet, among other characters, the irrepressible Fon of Bafut. VERY SCARCE IN THIS CONDITION.
