Er befasste sich intensiv mit dem islamischen Recht, gr�ndete eine juristische Schule, die eine Zeit lang bis nach Spanien ausstrahlte, und spielte eine wichtige Rolle in der Weitergabe zahlreicher Hadith-�erlieferungen. - Imtiyaz 'Ali 'Arshi (auch imtiyz Ali Khan Arshi, 1904-1981) war von 1932 bis zu seinem Tod Direktor der Raza-Bibliothek in Rampur, Uttah Pradesh. Arabic text. - Sufyan ath-Thawri ibn Said (716�778) was a Tabi� al-Tabi�in Islamic scholar and jurist, founder of the Thawri madhhab.He was also a great hadith compiler (muhaddith). Of his books, perhaps best known is his Tafsir of the Qur'an, one of the earliest in the genre. An Indian MSS purports to preserve it up to Q. 52:13, as published by Imtiy�'Al�Arsh�n 1965; also Tabari's tafsir quotes extensively from the whole text. He also preserved the books of his Umayyad predecessors. There he discovered and edited the manuscript of the Quran commentary by ath-Thawri.
