This work is a biography of Colonel James Gardiner (1688-1745), a Scottish soldier who fought in the British Army during the 1745 Jacobite rising. Gardiner, Colonel of the 13th Hussars, died of wounds received at the Battle of Prestonpans, where he made a valiant effort to rally the infantry.
