Roy. 8vo., First Edition thus, with portrait frontispiece, 47 plates by Kennington, Rothenstein, Roberts and others, 6 illustrations in the text and 4 folding maps, endpapers faintly spotted; original decorative brown buckram gilt, gilt back, uncut, brown top, backstrip very lightly sunned else a near fine copy. The first publicly available edition of this literary classic, following private publication in 1926 and the limited edition of 1935. Winston Churchill believed that it 'ranks with the greatest books ever written in the English language'.
