-- Rapid and radical economic growth has been taking place in China during the past decades, bringing large-scale, pervasive social change. Consciousness of individual rights is increasing, and in this process, traditional conservative approaches and values are also changing and another view on equality and the right to determine one's own sexual identity is emerging. Furthermore, this rapid development is reflected in the visual arts, which in turn can affect the social processes and contribute to the formation of a new, different reality. -- In Secret Love, some 150 pieces by 27 contemporary Chinese artists are presented. They are united in the will of giving visual expression to taboo love, and through their interest in subjects that are loaded with meaning in China and many other parts of the world, such as traditions and norms regarding sexual orientation, gender identity and desire. -- Secret Love is the first substantial contemporary Chinese art exhibition on this theme ever. Its purpose is to highlight a number of artists to have dared to display this previously invisible love and desire, and to start a public debate about, and academic interest for, this new phenomenon in Chinese art history. -- Frord -- Introduktion Cheng Juanzi & Song Jianing Chi Peng Cui Zi'en Fan Popo -- Gao Brothers -- Gao Yuan -- Han Meichao Jiang Qigu Li Guangxin Li Xiaofeng Li Yongfei Linjinfu -- Lin Zhipeng Ma Liuming MuXi -- Qiujiongjiong Ren Hang Shi Tou Wang Zi Weijiangang -- XieQi Xiyadie Yang Guowei Zhang Yuan Zheng Bo On love.
