Descrizione

First edition and printing. Illustrated on every page in black, red, white, and blue by Lucia Patton. 8vo, publisher's original pictorially decorated paper-covered boards, with pictorial endpapers, and in the rather scarce original dustjacket. [32pp., unpaginated]. A very fresh and bright copy, as nice as one could hope to find for a children's book produced to wartime standards, the text is spotless, the binding sound and sturdy with its brightly decorated paper-covered boards just lightly rubbed at the edges, even the dustjacket remains in an excellent state of preservation with just a touch of wear to the edges and folds.

Edizione: an uncommon book, rare in this condition, a followup to the popular book scuttlebutt goes to war. like that book, both the dog and the kitten in this story are real mascot animals from the pacific theater during the second world war. the stories were based on letters lieutenant dwight w. follett sent to his young daughter.<br> "the fur flies in this story when scuttlebutt, a real dog of the marines, meets oboe, a (navy) fliers mascot in the south pacific."
