8vo., Fourth Edition, with mounted chromolithographed frontispiece (original tissue guard present), engraved title-vignette, 7 fine mounted chromolithographed plates (all original tissue guards present), 24 woodcut illustrations in the text, and 9 folding engraved and coloured maps; original terracotta diced cloth, upper board blocked in gilt, gilt back, green endpapers, expertly rebacked with old backstrip laid down, a very good, bright, clean copy. With the contemporary trace ticket of Sanders of Upper Tooting on front paste-down, and binder's ticket of Edmonds & Remnants on rear paste-down. Published in the same year as the first edition. This edition has a new title-vignette and an extra woodcut illustration. This work is effectively the forerunner of the Alpine Club Journal. 'Commonly regarded as the cornerstone of any mountaineering collection' (Neate). An appendix lists all Alpine peaks above 12,000ft. Neate *18.
