"The Olympic Park aims to be a world renowned sculpture park where nature and modern art in the form of sculpture pieces meet, in accordance with the overall theme of 'the progress and harmony of mankinds', the theme of the 24th Olympiad in Seoul. . To achieve this end, the International Open Air Sculpture Symposium was held in two parts during the summer of 1987 and in the spring of 1988. As a result of the symposion, 36 pieces by some of the worlds most famous sculptors were created for display in the park.
