387 pages. Index. Select bibliography. Profusely illustrated with colour and primarily black and white photography. "The culmination of twenty-five years of study, during which this subject has been the major research project of the Textile Department of the Royal Ontario Museum. The opening chapter gives a general historical survey of early Canadian settlement patterns, with particular reference to where and by whom weaving came to be established as a craft, and to the materials available for weaving. The second chapter deals with the tools and equipment used in various parts of eastern Canada. Subsequent chapters concern kinds of weave; costume worn up to 1900; carpets, blankets, and linens; and a large variety of coverlets. Contains more than 500 photographs and drawings which record the material still in existence along with the history of individual pieces." - from dust jacket. Above-average wear. Former library copy with usual markings. A worthy reference copy of this magnificent reference. Book
