Descrizione
8vo., First Edition, with portrait frontispiece, very numerous full-page photographs in the text and pictorial endpapers, title very lightly age-marked; handsomely bound in full dark blue crushed morocco, sides with gilt frame border, back with raised bands, second and fourth compartments lettered and ruled in gilt, all other compartments tooled in gilt, gilt top, hand-made endpapers, ribbon marker, a most attractive copy ideal as a gift or for presentation. A scarce and important text in the history of British (and in many respects international) aviation. Test pilot Grierson traces the initial development and operation of the jet engine from Whittle (pictured as a flight cadet in the frontispiece) and the Gloster E.28 aircraft to the Meteor and Vampire, as well as progress in the USA.
