About The Book: India and Her Neighbours is based on updated and edited papers submitted at the two-day National Seminar held at VPM’s Centre for International Studies (Regd), Mumbai in February 2023. It was the belief of the organisers that classification of nations as “neighbours” and “distant neighbours” with reference to India, is an innovation first propounded by the VPM’s CIS; though we do not claim any patent for it! Considering India’s neighbours under two broad categories: The fFirst is our Immediate Neighbours and the second will be Distant Neighbours. Various scholars have contributed diverse perspectives based on their research on the subject presenting their perspectives on the subject.Prof. Chintamani Mahapatra emphasizes using education for fostering good neighbourly relations. Dr. Pramod Kumar highlights India's historical ties with Central Asia. Indo-Myanmar and Indo-Maldives ties are analysed by Ms. Meera Bhadre, stressing mutual dependence. The book also explores economic growth, geopolitical risks, and mitigation strategies in India, alongside discussions on regional frameworks, climate change, and bilateral relations under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership. The collection covers a broad spectrum of topics from diplomatic relations to economic cooperation, showcasing India's evolving regional and global roles. India's multifaceted diplomatic strategies, emphasizing historical bonds, regional security, economic cooperation, and cultural diplomacy in achieving its foreign policy objectives across diverse global contexts.
