Important 20th Century Design The Farnsworth House, 1945-1951, Ludwig Mies Van Der Rohe

This is a sale catalog for an auction held at Sotheby's New York on December 12, 2003. Sale code: 7947 "VIBE". The last lot in the sale was the Farnsworth House in the suburban Chicago area. Mies van der Rohe designed the house in the late 1940's for Dr. Farnsworth. When she decided to sell the house in 1968, she simply placed an ad in the Chicago Sun Times and Peter Palumbo, who happened to be in Chicago to meet with Mies and to discuss a project in London that Mies was designing, saw the ad, called Dr. Farnsworth and essentially bought the house that day. In 2003 he offered it to Sotheby's winter modern design auctions. Estimated at $4,500,000 to 6.000,000. Interview with Paul Goldberger and Lord Palumbo.
