First edition, 4to (275 x 215 mm), viii, 236pp., one of 200 copies of which this is no. 11 for Sir John Evans, the archaeologist, with his bookplate, numerous illustrations from line-drawings and portrait photographs, original publishers half calf, upper cover with gilt design, red spine label lettered in gilt, slight wear to upper joints but a very good copy. Describes the interior and exterior of eighteenth of the most important houses in Hertfordshire. Rare; even though the limitation statement is 200 copies the list of subscribers extends to just 24 names. Provenance: From the library of Josceline Grove, with bookplate and their typed catalogue description pasted to front endpapers. Not in Holmes, Cooper or JISK.
