This collection of sketches, gouaches and pen and ink drawings from the 1930s has been miraculously preserved in perfect condition. The entire compilation is revealed for the first time in my new book and accompanying exhibition at my Paris gallery Au Bonheur du Jour. Discursive texts appear alongside the drawings and explain this particular fascination for the transformation of a young man into a woman. Corseted, booted, flagellated by mistresses, young Gidrian submits to every lesson in an education that is far from sentimental. Fetishism, ambiguous androgyny, powerful dominatrixes… Here is an iconography that inspired countless fashion designers. To bind, to tie up, to knot, to untie, to whip, to submit, these are the pass-times of this very special world.
