Consequently he has stood aloof from all the movements that do not nurture or contribute to this fundamental esthetic. This means that he has rejected out of hand, all the fads and furbelows that have swept the commercial art world. He has shunned the automatist and abstract expressionist movements, the neo-nouveau, the fashionable and psychedellic novelities, not only out of principle, per se, but chiefly because they have contributed no new dimensions to his own particular inner world. In doing so, he has expectedly invited the furious criticism of those who welcome and defend every change as a synonym of progress.
