Un volume (30x38 cm) di 12pp+42 carte con 60 riproduzioni di opere dell'Allers, disegni e acquerelli, in nero e con diversi toni o sfondi beige (blu il paesaggio della vignetta al titolo). Nota di dedica manoscritta alla pagina di occhiello per Kaspar Bausewein. Timbretto di proprietà. Legatura originale in tutta tela verde con paesaggio caprese stampato al piatto e titoli dorati (usure e strappetto alle due estremità del dorso; qualche alone di gora al piatto, ma nel complesso legatura discretamente conservata). Tagli dorati. Una delle tavole un po' sporgente. - Si tratta di uno dei libri più famosi (se non il più famoso) su Capri, testimonianza e nello stesso tempo motore della passione degli intellettuali ed artisti tedeschi per l'isola. Nelle tavole Allers ritrae scorci di Capri ma anche i suoi abitanti, ed anche i giovani che egli ammirava. Il volume viene considerato infatti anche uno dei cardini delle biblioteche omosessuali per la personalità del suo autore. “One of the first prominent German homosexual visitors in the fin-de-siècle was C-W. Allers, who arrived in 1890. Then 35, he was a wellnown and respected artist; a friend of Bismarck, he had produced widely distributed images of the Irob Chancellor. Allers built a house on Capri, explored island, entertained visitors from Germany and made freinds with locals. Allers had an affair with a young sailor called Alberino; other boys later replaced Alberino in Allers house and studio, where they posed for him as models. Allers completed many drawings of Capri -portraits of peasants and fishermen, quail hunters, religious processions, local residents and visitrors from abroad. Allers' artistic work was appreciated, but his relations with boys brought him to the attention of the authorities in Naples. He studied in Munich, making his début there in 1854 at the Hofoper, where he was engaged for 46 years. A fine actor, equally gifted for comic and serious opera, he was a true bass with a wide repertory He retired in 1900 after a farewell performance as Lord Cockburn in Fra Diavolo.”
