Roy. 8vo., First Edition, on laid paper, with 3 fine coloured plates (one double-page), a fine full-page portrait of HM King George VI, 32 monochrome plates on 20 and pictorial endpapers; original blue buckram, upper board and backstrip blocked and lettered in gilt, a very good, bright, clean copy. THE AUTHOR'S OWN COPY WITH HIS SIGNATURE ON HALF-TITLE. A LABEL STATING THAT THE TEXT WAS COMMISSIONED OF MORPURGO BY 'THE TIMES' IS MOUNTED ON FRONT PASTE-DOWN. With two original coloured photographic prints of the American Memorial Chapel in St. Paul's Cathedral loosely inserted. Professor Jack Morpurgo (1918-2000) was Director-General of the National Book League and later Professor of American Literature at Leeds University. His many works include several on Anglo-American military history and an acclaimed biography of fellow Old Blue Barnes Wallis. Cohen B132; not recorded by Woods.
