Green endpapers. = Early, perhaps first, English translation of the author's famous "Einleitung in das Studium der kryptogam. Gewächse". The German botanist and physician Kurt Polycarp Joachim Sprengel (1766-1833) is also renowned for his Versuch einer pragmatischen Geschichte der Arzneikunde, and for the use of a microscope in describing higher plants. Uncut. Fore edge therefore a bit soiled at edges. Fairly clumsy repair to the top outer corner of the last plate, otherwise very good. Stafleu and Cowan, 12675.
