First edition, xvi, [4], 224pp., with an additional letterpress divisional title and list of subscribers, 5 engraved plates (of which 3 are folding), closed tear repair to blank fore-edge of Cc4. 2 Works in one, 4to (265 x 212 mm), marbled endpapers, contemporary diced calf, rubbed, gilt rolled board to both upper and lower board, spine tooled in gilt, extremities a little worn, spine faded, all edges gilt. Each of these works were printed by the York printer George Peacock, and both published by private subscription with a list of the names of the subscribers. Richard Steele is described as ëlate of Thirsk, but now of Sionhill, (near Thirsk) in the County of York.í William Speechly (1723ñ1819), agriculturist, head gardener to William Henry Cavendish Cavendish-Bentinck, third duke of Portland, at Welbeck Abbey in Nottinghamshire. Mainly known for his skill in growing pineapples and introducing new methods for cultivating grapes. Provenance: Engraved armorial bookplate of Christopher Harrison to front paste-down.
