8vo [21 x 14 cm]; [ii], vi, 84, 95 pp, 2 folding engraved maps, engraved folding plan, 6 appendices including one on winds and tides of Churchill River [complete], errata page. contemporary half calf, marbled boards, later spine, spine label with gilt lettering, new endpapers, map & plan a little cropped at foredge with loss of about quarter inch, fine engraved bookplate of Johannes Symons Arm, clean very good copy, corner wear. Hill p. 257: 'This is one of the earliest and certainly the fullest of works that had hitherto been published on the Hudson Bay Territory. The author was surveyor and supervisor of the buildings to the company. The territory began to open up after 1763 when Canada passed from French into British possession. Robson, with a sound knowledge of the locale and of the personnel of the Hudson's Bay Company, condemned the company for its failure to promote enterprise and development in its lands'. An appendix has a history of the discovery of Hudson's Bay and the proceedings of the English there. The two maps include A Draught of the Nelson and Hayes Rivers, and, A Draught of the Churchill River. The folding plate contains two plans, Fort York, and Fort Prince of Wales. Peel 12. TPL 217.
