First edition, 4to (275 x 215 mm), [8], 76pp., without the leaf of subscribers, hand-coloured engraved portrait frontispiece of the author on horseback, 53 hand-coloured engraved plates (plate 35 bis, and no plate numbered 52 as always), some light spotting and offsetting of text onto plates, nineteenth-century half calf, marbled boards, spine and corners a little rubbed, upper joint just starting to crack but still a very good copy. The first edition of Albinís extensive treatise on British spiders, based on Joseph Dandridgeís unpublished work, complemented by extracts from Robert Hookeís Microscopical observations on the Carter Spider, and Jumping Spider and Observations on the Flea and Louse, and Richard Mead, to whom the present work dedicated, Of the Tarantula and Of the Scorpion.
