The book present the "history" of women's fashion with illustrations from the beginning of the 20th Century to the 1970's.

The book provides not just apparel, but, hats, shoes, handbags, literally anything worn with not just a description but the significance of new materials. She writes about a 1935 belt with an art deco buckle including "plastic was a new medium." There is fascinating mention of the style of the late Jacqueline Kennedy, growth of sportswear in the 1940's and even some interesting commentary about the "youth looks of the 1970s" and so much more.
